Ericsson announced last week the appointment of Ulf Ewaldsson (pictured) as senior vice president, chief strategy and technology officer and head of Group Function Strategy and Technology, as the Swedish vendor combines its strategy and technology functions.
Ewaldsson has been at Ericsson since 1990, and currently serves as CTO and head of Group Function Technology. He has now taken on the responsibilities of chief strategy officer as well, after Ericsson's current chief strategy officer, Rima Qureshi, was appointed to head Ericsson’s business in North America. In addition to the role of head of North America, Qureshi will also continue to drive the strategic partnership with Cisco.
Both Ewaldsson and Qureshi continue to be Executive Leadership Team members and report to Jan Frykhammar, who became interim CEO after the departure of Hans Vestberg in July.
"This move is a natural step as Rima focuses fully on driving the business development and customer relationships in one of the most advanced technology markets in the world. In the rapid technology development and transformation of our industry it makes perfect sense to combine technology strategy and strategy development into one process."
