Turner, Q.net bring CNN, Cartoon Network to Vietnam
Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific has entered into a strategic partnership with Q.net, one of Vietnam’s major program distribution companies. The deal will see a CNN International 24/7 live-stream feed and a Cartoon Network block delivered to subscribers of Viettel, Vinaphone and Mobifone.
SK Telecom, Lenovo tap China app market
SK Telecom signed a memorandum of understanding with Lenovo to cooperate to provide T Store’s contents to smartphones made by Lenovo and expand content distribution platform of T Store to a global scale. This will allow the supply of Korean contents to the global applications market including that of China.
Grameen launches app lab in Indonesia
Grameen Foundation, together with Qualcomm and Bakrie Telecom, has launched the Application Laboratory in Indonesia. AppLab Indonesia will develop avenues for business learning and provide other essential information to help increase their bargaining power and income.
DoCoMo launches i-mode version of mobile portal
NTT DoCoMo will launch on December 6 an i-mode version of its "docomo market" mobile portal to provide simple access to customers using i-mode-enabled handsets. These customers number about 48 million.
Virtual goods market balloons to $7.3b in 2010
A new In-Stat report found that the revenue specifically generated from the sale of virtual goods has increased 245% from $2.1 billion in 2007 to $7.3 billion in 2010. The emergence of social and casual games on social networking sites and mobile phones has created a 2D virtual goods market of close to $2.3 billion.
Wholesale Applications Community signs up new members
The Wholesale Applications Community took in nine new members, bringing the total membership to 57. New members include Aepona, Cambertech, GClue, Gemalto, Infraware, KT Innotz, Sharp and Sony Ericsson as associate members while the Russian operator VimpelCom has joined as an operator member.
