(Financial Times via NewsEdge) T-Mobile, the mobile subsidiary of German group Deutsche Telekom, lodged a complaint against Austrian carrier Telekom Austria in connection with the latter's plans to launch a new discount brand.
Austria's largest telecoms operator is hoping to compete with Telering, an Austrian low-cost mobile phone company that T-Mobile recently acquired for 1.3 bn euros.
Telekom Austria is now only just ahead of T-Mobile on the Austrian market, and the German company is aiming to become the market leader by the end of the year.
T-Mobile has alleged that Telekom Austria, through its "Bob" brand, is using "deceptive packaging" for the wireless services.
The new brand, which is selling its services via supermarkets, post offices and petrol stations, is hoping to gain tens of thousands of customers.
