Singapore’s second largest operator, StarHub, has announced services that aim to counter bill shock from high data roaming charges.

A range of monthly data-roaming plans aimed at frequent and business travelers was unveiled yesterday with prices ranging from S$30 for 10MB of usage to S$200 for 100MB.

StarHub claims these packages are heavily discounted from the regular $0.02/KB rate charged for data roaming.

These new data plans are available only when StarHub’s customers roam with selected partner carriers in 20 countries worldwide.

These are Australia (Hutchison/Telstra/Vodafone), Belgium (Base/Mobistar), China (China Mobile/China Unicom), Finland (DNA/Elise), France (Orange), Germany (T-Mobile/E-Plus), Greece (Cosmote), Hong Kong (CSL/China Mobile HK), India (Vodafone), Luxembourg (Orange), Malaysia (Celcom), Netherlands (KPN), Poland (Orange), Romania (Orange), Slovakia (Orange), Spain (Orange), Sri Lanka (Dialog), Switzerland (SwissCom/Orange), Taiwan (Chunghwa), UK (T-Mobile/Telefonica O2/Vodafone) and USA (AT&T).

StarHub’s VP of personal solutions Joanna Chan said the carrier would be looking to expand its range of partners to include more regional operators in time to come.

These new plans complement StarHub’s existing $15/day capped data roaming charge that was implemented in conjunction with the carrier’s other partners in the Conexus Mobile Alliance.
