US operator Sprint has reportedly been forced into an embarrassing climb down over the insurance policies available to its iPhone customers.

The carrier initially declined to offer its Total Equipment Protection (TEP) to iPhone subscribers, directing them instead to Apple's own AppleCare+ insurance product.

However, Sprint has since relented and is offering iPhone customers the chance to sign up to TEP for up to 30 days after buying the smartphone, for a monthly fee of $11.
