Sony Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) have both announced new CTOs.

Sony Ericsson has appointed Jan Uddenfeldt as CTO and also to the new post of head of Sony Ericsson Silicon Valley. He will be based at the company’s Redwood Shores, California, office and report directly to president Bert Nordberg.

Uddenfeldt is a former Ericsson CTO, and has been based in California for the past two years developing technology strategies for the Ericsson group, the company said in a statement.

Uddenfeldt said the Silicon Valley was a natural one because the area had become “the epicentre for the development of mobile operating systems and application software.”

NSN has tapped Hossein Moiin, currently responsible for mobile technology and architecture at BT, as its first CTO.

The post was created following a reorganization last November, which eliminated of the role of COO.

Moiin will be responsible for developing the company’s technology strategy and long-term views on network architecture, NSN said.

Moiin, who holds both Iranian and Italian citizenship, will be based out of the company’s headquarters in Espoo, Finland.
