(Kyodo News International via NewsEdge) Softbank president Masayoshi Son expressed confidence that the Softbank group will outdo NTT DoCoMo and KDDI in Japan 's mobile phone service market.
The Softbank group, including Yahoo Japan , has been stronger than rivals such as NTT DoCoMo in Internet services, Son told its first general meeting of shareholders since the Internet investor acquired the Japan unit of British mobile phone company Vodafone in April.
'We have potential to outdo rivals when the time comes for mobile phones to handle every kind of information,' he said.
Son said Softbank will take full advantage of the Yahoo Internet services to attract mobile phone users.
A Softbank mobile phone will have a Yahoo button as instant access to the Internet world, he said.
Softbank bought the Vodafone unit, the third largest player in the Japanese mobile phone market, for 1.75 trillion yen ($15 billion) in the largest ever buyout deal struck by a Japanese company.
Son also said the Softbank group's mobile phone business will easily pay since the number of players in the large Japanese mobile market is limited to three.
