Japan Telecom, a fixed-line phone service provider belonging to Softbank group, said Thursday that Softbank president Masayoshi Son will replace Hideki Kurashige as its president, effective October 1.

Son will take the helm of three telecommunications units of the Softbank group, Vodafone K.K. for mobile phone services and Softbank BB for broadband services, in addition to Japan Telecom.

Japan Telecom also said senior executive vice president Ryuichi Tomimura will step down together with Kurashige, who assumed the presidency of the company in 2004 after serving as vice president of IBM Japan.

Kurashige and Tomimura will stay on the Japan Telecom board, chaired by Son, for the time being.
