SK Telecom and Samsung Electronics have revealed plans to demonstrate record-high 7.55Gbps mobile data rates at next week's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
The companies will show off 3D beamforming antenna technology to reduce propagation loss at millimeter-wave frequencies.
SK Telecom and Samsung also plan to demonstrate the new “full dimension MIMO” technology, capable of using tens or hundreds of antennas simultaneously.
In an announcement, the Korean companies said they intend to strengthen their co-operation on the development of key 5G technologies with the goal of achieving the world's first commercialization of the standard in 2020.
Samsung and SK Telecom signed a 5G collaboration agreement in October ith the goal of being able to demonstrate 5G products in time for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang.
“SK Telecom is delighted to demonstrate the key 5G technology with Samsung Electronics,” said Choi Jin-sung, executive vice president and head of corporate R&D center at SK Telecom.
“We will make ceaseless efforts to develop innovative network technologies that will lead us to the new era of 5G marked by infinite possibilities.”
