SK Telecom has joined forced with Bell Labs, the research arm of Alcatel-Lucent to conduct researches on big data platform and video analytics system.
The pair signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday to jointly carry out research into big data analytics engines and platforms as well as next-generation video analytics technologies and systems.
Byun Jae-Woan, CTO of SK Telecom, expects the joint efforts will lead to the creation of new innovative telecom services by combining the Korean mobile carrier’s knowhow in telecoms and Bell Labs’ source technologies in the telecoms field.
SK Telecom said it is already operating Geovision, a business platform offering site location/ trading area analysis, which is based on the operator’s homegrown big data-related large scale distributed storage system and parallel processing technology.
The company is also actively developing next-generation video technologies like smart video recorder, SK Telecom added.
