SingTel has signed deal with Ericsson to test a new, high-speed broadband service delivered over existing copper lines in Singapore , a statement from the two firms said.

The statement said Ericsson will deliver the "ultra-high speed" fixed broadband trial network to SingTel based on Ericsson's EDA VDSL2 broadband technology.

This will make SingTel the first operator in South East Asia to deploy VDSL2 broadband technology in its network, providing access speed of up to 100 Mbps on copper, powered by Ericsson's VDSL2 equipment and solutions, the statement said.

The service is also seen allowing SingTel to deliver large-scale deployment of triple play services.
