Singtel's data analytics subsidiary DataSpark is working with consulting company Analysys Mason to develop a network planning app for mobile operators.
The new app will leverage Dataspark's Network CAPEX Optimizer platform to analyze data sets including customer satisfaction scores, potential demands, network traffic and yield, to help operators choose the best location for new cell sites or effectively upgrade existing infrastructure.
Singtel said trials of the app conducted by an unnamed Southeast Asian operator have demonstrated an 11% improvement in the operator's return on investment compared to network planning approaches that only take into account traffic.
DataSpark and Analysys Mason are also working with mobile operators in the Asia Pacific region to support the development of analytics capabilities for informed decision making.
In the future the companies expect to expand the capabilities of the app to cover planning for fixed wireless access, FTTH and 5G deployments, as well as a feature to help operators identify new data monetization opportunities in sectors including transport, advertising and urban planning.
“Our collaboration with Analysys Mason has the potential to boost the financial performance of mobile operators worldwide,” DataSpark COO Ying Shao Wei said.
“It could be a game-changer for telcos in that it can help them build their networks more efficiently and enhance their customer engagement. By using the app to distill and analyze datasets, including past customer transactions in a non-invasive manner, operators can customize products and services for specific customer segments to generate new revenue streams.”
