SingTel has introduced a new service designed to automatically connect its mobile roaming customers to the operator's partner networks

SingTel is offering the service for frequent traveler customers subscribed to its DataRoam Saver plans.

Designed to mitigate bill shock, it can be set up so data is only consumed when devices are connected to SingTel's preferred partner networks in 44 countries.

The service, which is based on Ericsson's Service-Aware Charging and Control systems, supports 2G, 3G and LTE roaming.

Some Asian operators have recently started experimenting with auto-roaming capabilities as their LTE networks mature. SK Telecom has deals in place with cellcos including the Philippines' Globe Telecom to offer LTE auto-roaming capabilities to their respective subscribers.
