Samsung Electronics expects to launch its version of Apple’s iPad, the Galaxy Pad, in the next three months.
J.K. Shin, president of Samsung's mobile communications division, told theWSJ the device would debut “no later than” the third quarter.
He also said Samsung was looking at “possible acquisitions in the software space.”
“People see Samsung as a strong player in the hardware segment, but somewhat as a weak player in the software space,” Shin said.
He said the firm found it “hard to convince the market just by making distinctive hardware”, so it developed its own mobile platform, Bada, which operates its app stores Samsung Apps.
“It is true that we were somewhat late and behind in terms of quantity of applications when compared with some global competitors,” added Shin.
