(Associated Press via NewsEdge) A Samsung executive has agreed to plead guilty and serve 10 months in prison for his role in a global price-fixing scheme involving a common form of computer memory, federal prosecutors said.
Young Hwan Park, president of Samsung Semiconducto, the company's U.S. subsidiary, is the fifth Samsung executive to agree to a prison sentence over price manipulation of DRAM, the most common type of memory chip used in personal computers.
Last November, Samsung Electronics and its subsidiary pleaded guilty to similar charges and were fined $300 million.
A Samsung spokeswoman declined to comment but said the company would be issuing a statement.
In total, four memory chip companies and 18 people have been charged in the Justice Department's investigation. The cases have brought more than $730 million in fines against the defendants.
