Rovi has entered into an entertainment discovery patent license agreement with KT, a provider of telecommunication services in Korea.
This license agreement provides KT with access to Rovi’s patent portfolio, powering entertainment discovery for KT’s mobile TV subscribers.
KT is one of the major providers of over-the-top (OTT) services in Korea, providing telecommunications and convergence services throughout the region.
The company also offers TV everywhere (TVE) and video-on-demand (VOD) over wireless networks and the Internet as part of its digital networking services.
“This licensing agreement with KT underscores the value of our discovery patent portfolio in Korea,” said Samir Armaly, EVP for intellectual property and licensing at Rovi.
“Our extensive entertainment discovery patent portfolio is licensed by some of the world’s leading companies around the globe,” said Armaly. “With Rovi, our licensees are able to accelerate the deployment of personalized entertainment experiences and help facilitate the discovery of content across multiple screens.”
Rovi claims to have one of the world’s largest media and entertainment patent portfolios. Its platform-independent, technology agnostic IP portfolio is licensed to “leading companies around the world, including the biggest names in media and entertainment.”
