Bangladesh's Robi Axiata has announced a deal with digital security vendor Gemalto to deploy a device management platform to help customers more easily switch handsets.
Robi will deploy Gemalto's LinqUs device management platform, which is designed to deliver data settings for applications including MMS, internet and email to end-user devices.
The platform will also allow Robi to conduct marketing analysis of installed devices for targeted promotional campaigns.
Gemalto's platform has a database identifying device references for over 100,000 devices, including smartphones and tablets, as well as a subcategory for 4G-ready devices.
“In Bangladesh, users change their devices frequently as they can buy data enabled affordable phones,” Robi CTO AKM Morshed said.
“[Customers] expect instant access to their favorite services. With Gemalto's solution, users can activate their device instantly by simply accepting all updates."
Gemalto president for South Asia and Japan Michael Au added that his company has been working with operators in Bangladesh for the past two decades, and has developed a strong understanding of the particular demands of the market.
