(Telecomworldwire via NewsEdge) South Korean mobile phone manufacturer Pantech is expected to supply more than 3.5 million handsets to US wireless operator Cingular Wireless next year.

Pantech has reportedly reached the final stage of discussions to sign the supply agreement with Cingular, a venture of AT&T and BellSouth.

The predicted shipment for 2007 represents an increase from the estimated 1 million for this year. Pantech started shipping handsets to the operator earlier this year.

In addition, Pantech has received approval from the commerce ministry in South Korea to expand its Kimpo domestic plant, to be completed by late 2008.

The facility will more than double the plant's production capacity from the current 600,000 units per month.
