Nokia Siemens has launched two microwave switches designed to aid in the migration from legacy networks to all-IP.
The switches - FlexiPacket FirstMile and FlexiPacket Hub 1200 - have been designed to cope with the surge in data usage operators are now seeing due to the proliferation of smartphones, NSN said.
The FlexiPacket FirstMile has been tailored for base station sites that need to aggregate traffic from different kinds of networks – such as 2G and 3G - and has been optimized for daisy chaining.
The FlexiPacket Hub 1200 meanwhile has been certified by the Metro Ethernet Forum for mission-critical use at aggregation points. It can provide up to 10Gpbs of switching capacity in a single unit, NSN added.
