(Nordic Business Report via NeswsEdge) Nokia Siemens Networks said that it has signed a contract with Yunnan CTC, a branch of China Telecom, for the supply and implementation of carrier Ethernet switches.

However, the company did not provide financial information of the deal.

Nokia Siemens Networks said that the carrier grade Ethernet switches will enable Yunnan CTC to enhance and optimize its existing network in terms of traffic engineering, quality of service, administration, resilience, security and scalability.

Under the agreement, Nokia Siemens Networks will carry out a large-scale carrier Ethernet switch deployment in China's south-western province of Yunnan.

The deployment started at the end of July and the network is due to start operations in September, the company added.

Yunnan Telecommunications has branches in 16 prefectures and cities of Yunnan province, all of which use the service logo China Telecom.
Yunnan Telecommunications has over five million fixed line telephone users and one million data Internet users.
