Nokia has announced the appointments of two regional heads as part of the planned merger of the company with Alcatel-Lucent.

Paul Tyler (pictured) will become the head of Asia-Pacific and Japan, overseeing the combined company’s customer operations across the region, Nokia said in a statement.

Tyler is currently senior vice president for Asia-Pacific and Japan at Nokia Networks.

He was head of sales for the Asia-Pacific region between 2009 and 2011. Prior to this he was head of Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Islands at Nokia Networks.

Nokia Networks' current VP and head of India Sandeep Girotra will become head of India, overseeing the combined company’s customer operations across the country, the company said.

Girotra joined Nokia Networks in 1996 and has held a number of different roles in India, heading the region since 2011. In 2010 he served as head of sales for business solution networks having been customer team head at Idea Cellular within Nokia Siemens Networks from 2007 to 2009.

Tyler and Girotra will report to Ashish Chowdhary, chief customer operations officer.

Both Tyler and Girota will take up their new posts after, and subject to, the closing of the company’s offer to Alcatel-Lucent securities announced last April, Nokia noted.

The appointments follow the announcement last month of the planned senior leadership team and organizational structure for the combined Nokia and Alcatel-Lucent.
