Interconnection provider Neutral Tandem has become the third entrant into the Ethernet exchange market.
But unlike the rival offerings, Neutral Tandem's Ethernet eXchange runs its own MPLS network, the company said. This enables its clients to expand their reach into multiple markets from a single interconnection.
Ethernet eXchange will initially reach only US markets, with the plan being to launch in 14 major cities in 2010. But both US and international deployments are being planned, to be prioritized based on customer demand.
Colocation provider Equinix began live tests of an Ethernet exchange service in October, while CENX launched its eponymous platform in November.
