Indonesian 4G-based mobile broadband provider Net1 Indonesia has expanded availability to 10 tourism destinations across the country.
The operator aims to provide internet access over its 450-MHz LTE network to visitors to tourism destinations, particularly those in remote areas, targeting the social media hungry millennial market.
The destinations include Samosir Island in North Sumatera, Takengon Fresh Sea Lake in Aceh, Tiu Kelep Waterfall in Lombok, Tanjung Kelayang Beach in Belitung and Situ Cileunca in Pangalengan.
Rounding out the list are Tanjung Bira in Bulukumba, Bukittinggi in West Sumatra, Gili Trawangan in Lombok, Karimun Jawa Island in Central Java, and Mandalika in West Nusa Tenggara.
Some of these destinations are covered in the Ministry of Tourism's latest campaign to promote new tourist hotspots in Bali, and the deployment has been supported by a number of local governments.
"The existence of Net1 Indonesia in those 10 tourism spots with adequate 4G LTE based internet access is to facilitate the travelers and tourists to stay in touch with family and friends, yet still exist in social media,” Net1 Indonesia CEO Larry Ridwan said.
“The connection provision in those spots is also reflecting our commitment to support the government programs to boosting the tourism industry through the brand of Wonderful Indonesia."
Indonesia's Investment Coordinating Board estimates that the nation's tourism sector grew 31% in 2017 to $1.7 billion, and is on track to reach $2 billion this year. This represents 15% of Indonesia's total GDP.
