NEC is now offering its new trunk microwave communications systems, the 5000iP Series, featuring 1.6 times the transmission capacity of existing 5000S systems. The new 5000iP Series supports full packet networking for long-distance communications of up to 50 kilometers between metropolitan and mountainous areas where it is difficult to lay optical cable.
The new systems are well suited for strengthening trunk networks with LTE and 4G communications, and they support full-packet, high-capacity communications that reach 1.6 times (4Gbps) higher than existing 5000S products. The compact design of the 5000iP Series enables carriers to flexibly install the systems within offices and other areas of limited space.
Carriers in Zambia and Tanzania have already placed orders for the new systems. NEC aims to sell approximately 10,000 units globally over the next three years.
The system features high-capacity trunk communications support and automatically changing the modulation method and the transmission rate in response to wireless link quality as well as optimizing transmission capacity in response to weather conditions thanks to adaptive modulation radio functions that improve throughput.
Collectively, for the first time, these features enable wireless transmission of high capacity packet data for mobile core networks.
