As more personal navigation devices (PND) become available, the handset-based personal navigation solutions market is expected to expand to 12 million units in Europe and the US by 2009. According to Berg Insight, PND shipments of on-board and off-board systems will expand 86% this year from around one million units last year. Technologies such as A-GPS, indoor GPS and Galileo will soon allow handset manufacturers to include satellite positioning in mass-market models for the European market.
