State-owed Myanmar Posts and Telecom (MPT) has activated international roaming services in the market under an agreement with France Telecom Orange.
Myanmar authorities approved the launch of a GSM and WCDMA roaming trial in the market, Xinhua Newsreported, citing local media sources.
MPT and Orange signed an agreement on December 20 giving subscribers to 64 operators in 33 countries access to roaming services in the nation.
Orange reportedly aims to expand access to over 100 international countries over the course of the trial period.
Last month, SingTel announced the launch of international SMS roaming services in the Myanmar market.
The government last year awarded two national telecom licenses to Telenor and Ooredoo following a competitive tender. The government aims to improve Myanmar's mobile penetration to 80% by 2015.
