Motorola, Wipro plan to invest $20m in venture in India

(Economic Times via NewsEdge) Motorola and Wipro Technologies, the global IT arm of Wipro, will jointly invest $20 million in their newly formed joint venture, called WMNetServ, over the next 3 years.

'Wipro would have a majority shareholding in this venture,' Wipro COO AL Rao said.

The joint venture would target global telecom service providers, government and enterprise markets for service delivery, Rao said.

The funds will be used for software tools and building a network operating centre in New Delhi, the executive said.

Consulting firm Mercer Management, estimates that global managed and advisory services market which is currently $26 billion is expected to almost double in the next four years.

Mercer also estimates 60% of the world's wireless operators will have some form of managed services in the same period.

On WMNetServ's business model, Jayanta Dey, general manager of Wipro Technologies said the joint venture would deliver and manage services in planning, deployment, optimization, security, operations and support.
