(India Business Insight via NewsEdge) DishTV is increasing the number of channels on its direct-to-home platform, from the current 130 channels from seven transponders on the NSS-6 satellite.

As additional transponders are currently unavailable, DishTV is adding channels using compression from Scopus Video Networks. The firm will add Scopus E-1200 encoders, IRD-2900 decoders, IVG-7100 intelligent video gateway platforms and network management system software to its headend.

Following the move, Dish TV's average of 18 channels per transponder will go up to 28 channels, enabling it to add 70 new channels on its existing transponders, without additional transponder resources.
