The number of mobile payment users across the globe will jump from up 116 million in 2011 to over 375 million in 2015, a report said.
The In-Stat report also said consumer demand will fuel the growth of mobile payments.
“If mobile operators are able to push beyond the infrastructural challenges and introduce these services to the mass market, the transactional value of the mobile payments market is positioned to grow nearly tenfold over the next several years,” Amy Cravens, market analyst, at In-Stat, said.
The report also identified significant smartphone penetration, mobile-based commerce, infrastructural developments supporting contactless payments, including NFC-enabled mobile phones and point of sale (POS) terminals as factor for the increase in mobile payments.
