Telecom Strategy Partners said its first quarter 2009 analysis of the mobile backhaul segment indicates a hotly contested market and an evolving competitive landscape.
"Opportunities are there for GSM expansion in emerging markets, but the most coveted market opportunity will be enabling the gradual and partial migration from 2G/3G to 4G," said principal analsyt David Dunphy.
Dunphy said important differentiators can include strong transport design and mobile network knowledge, competitive packet synchronization performance and options, connection-oriented Ethernet, effective OAM (operations, administration and maintenance), end-to-end management of transport layers, and innovation in combining packet microwave with transport technologies.
