Network service providers (NSPs) that can fulfill customer requirements for high levels of quality and performance are clearly positioned to dominate the triple-play market, which is still in an early, land-grab stage.

However, as providers migrate to delivering converged voice, video and data services, they put themselves at tremendous risk. A single network outage or performance problem can result in a total service blackout or brownout-a possibility that strikes terror among network service providers and enterprise customers alike.

Addressing customer concerns through effective MPLS network management therefore entails overcoming three major challenges, which together pose a "triple threat" to the delivery of triple-play services.
