(Associated Press via NewsEdge) Dutch telecommunications company Royal KPN said third-quarter profit rose 5.2% as growth at the company's mobile telephony operations outweighed an ongoing decline at its fixed line division.

Net profit was 346 million euros ($441 million), up from 329 million euros ($419 million), the company said in a statement. Sales increased 3.8% to 3.04 billion euros ($3.87 billion).

'Our mobile businesses have again performed well, outperforming the market, and more than compensated for the challenges faced by the fixed market,' CEO Ad Scheepbouwer said.

At the mobile operations, where operating profit grew by 35% to 264 million euros ($336 million), the most important change was a turnaround at the company's German unit, E-Plus.

There, operating profit improved to 75 million euros ($96 million) from 3 million euros ($3.8 million) a year ago as an ongoing restructuring program bore fruit.
