KDDI Vietnam has announced plans to offer the country's first smart metering system at the DEEP C Industrial Zone at Haiphong in the north of the country.
KDDI Vietnam has deployed a LoRa low power wide area IoT network to establish advanced metering at the DEEP C facility, including IoT enabled remote monitoring.
During a Vietnam-first trial in March, power meters were connected to LoRa devices and transmitted data to a LoRa gateway around 4km away, monitoring data in real time. This eliminated the need for site visits to read meters and check the operational status of hardware.
KDDI Vietnam signed an agreement earlier his month with Dinh Vu Industrial Zone JSC on implementing the IoT network at the DEEP C Industrial Zone.
Haiphong is the largest port city in northern Vietnam, and home to many Japanese companies. DEEP C HP I is a port facility and industrial park, while the newly opened DEEP C HP II is expected to attract companies from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, China, the US and Europe.
The partners said they plan further collaboration in areas including LPWA-enabled monitoring of smart meters, security, wind-power generation and other features.
