(Asia Pulse Businesswire via NewsEdge) Indonesian telco Indosat has opened an international tender for the procurement of a new satellite.

Indosat regional sales director Wityasmoro Sih Handayanto said the new satellite would replace the telco's old satellite, Palapa-C2, which would end its service in 2010.

Palapa-C2, orbiting on 113 eastern longitude with 24 C-band transponders and 4 Ku-band transponders, has a coverage of Asia and Australia.

The replacement satellite would be launched in 2009, Wityasmoro said without giving further details.
