Indonesian mobile operator PT Sampoerna Telekomunikasi Indonesia (STI) has entered a partnership with telecoms vendor PT Industri Telekomunikasi Indonesia (PT INTI) to produce devices that support the operator's 450-MHz 4G spectrum.
STI is operating LTE on the 450-MHz band under the brand name Net1 Indonesia. The operator has engaged PT INTI to produce devices supporting the frequency that will be integrated with Net1 Indonesia services.
The two operators will then jointly market the product and internet connection as an integrated telecommunications solution, focusing on enterprise customers.
PT INTI was selected based on its experience and its capacity to allow STI fulfill its obligation under Indonesia's new regulations requiring domestically sold smartphones to source at least 20% of their components locally. This regulation also sets a local content requirement of 30% for base stations.
STI is the only Indonesian operator using the 450-MHz band. The operator is partnering with Scandinavia's AINMT International Holdings to broaden and enhance its network.
“We believe this MoU will bring us promising business opportunity for Net1 Indonesia and PT INTI in the near future,” STI CEO Larry Ridwan said.
“This partnership emphasizes the joint commitment between two Indonesian telecommunication companies to grow together in enhancing the broad, easy, and affordable internet access to Indonesian people."
