India's Reliance Communications will launch 3G services in five more of the nation's telecom circles on June 20, significantly extending its 3G footprint.

The company has switched on its 3G network in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Uttar Pradesh East, Tech2reported.

RCom's 3G footprint now extends to 18 of India's 22 telecom circles. In a statement, RCom CEO consumer Gurdeep Singh said the network now covers all major metros. “Together, these circles account for 80% of incremental smartphone sales in the country,” he said.

“As India’s youngest pan-India GSM operator, we are committed to improving the quality of our customer mix, and our extended 3G presence will help us attract a disproportionate share of customers in the high-value Corporate and SME segments.”

As of the end of March, RCom had 12.9 million 3G customers, making it the largest 3G operator by market share, Tech2 said.

RCom was India's second private mobile operator to launch 3G services back in late 2010. The operator also offers 2G services in all 22 circles.
