(The Times of India via NewsEdge) Knowing the location of the train you are traveling in and the time it will take to reach your destination is slated to become easy in India. By March 2007, all chair cars in trains of the South Central Railway (SCR) will have global positioning system (GPS) display boards giving out this data.

The system was indigenously developed by an SCR engineer some months ago.

Some trials on the Secunderabad-Kazipet route were carried out recently by SCR officials. A prototype had been for the system, and the Union railway ministry had given the go-ahead for the project.

The rusty destination boards on the bogies would also be replaced by LED boards with display in three languages in the near future.

After Secunderabad, surveillance cameras would be installed at Nampally, Kacheguda, Vijayawada, Tirupati, Raichur and Guntakal railway stations by the end of this year.
