IBM claims to have helped deliver the world’s third largest cloud data center, after teaming with Indian operator Tulip Telecom to design and build a 900,000 square foot facility in the country.
The US-headquartered firm states its SmartCloud infrastructure services enable Tulip to deliver infrastructure, storage and platform-as-a-service to its customers at the site. IBM also notes the site’s power capacity of 100 Mw makes it the largest data center in India, but that the facility still sports strong ‘green’ credentials.
It features 20 enterprise modular data centers in a four tower building. Steven Sams, vice president of global site and facilities services at IBM, says the center will “last for decades,” despite the fast pace of change in the technology industry, and will also “meet India’s environmental efficiency regulations.”
The firm claims a typical energy cost saving of 30% compared to what it terms “traditional” regular data centers.
