Huawei Technologies has appointed John Roese to lead its North America research and development unit.
A former chief technology officer at Nortel Networks, Roese will join Huawei as senior vice president and general manager of Huawei North America R&D, based in Santa Clara, California.
Prior to Nortel, Roese has also held senior positions at Broadcom Corporation, Enterasys Networks and Cabletron.
Roese has almost two decades of experience in wireless technologies, networking and security, and VOIP.
He is the inventor on 16 granted and pending patents in the area of policy management, location based networking and other areas of communications.
In a separate announcement, François Quentin has been named chairman of Huawei France. In his new role, Quentin will lead a program to improve the unit's traction in the French market.
Before joining Huawei, Quentin was employed in various management positions in the telecom division of Thomson-CSF (now Thales).
