From a small base of less than one million at the end of 2006, the number of HSDPA connections in Western Europe is seen hitting 16.5 million by the end of 2008. Ovum says more UMTS operators will start deploying the high-speed wireless technology in the next two years, due mainly to its low cost and relative ease of implementation. By 2008, HSDPA mobile handsets are also expected to become more widely available and more affordable.
