The Home Gateway Initiative (HGI) has presented detailed use cases at a special event in Turin which will accelerate the global roll-out of Home Energy Management (HEM) services.

Documented use cases and in-home architecture coordinated from contributions by HGI’s service provider members and in cooperation with key industry consortia and technology manufacturers have been reviewed and will lead to published specifications on HEM service support in the second half of 2011.

“For the first time, we have been able to share detailed use cases with technology providers and smart meter and white goods industry representatives. It was very successful and has been an invaluable first step in evaluating and proposing available solutions to an interconnected home gateway equipped with energy management functions,” said Duncan Bees, chief business and technical officer of HGI.

The final specification will include the use cases, technical requirements for the home gateway (HG), and  interface requirements among HG, smart meter, smart appliances, and other in-home devices. The next steps will be taken at the HGI meeting in Seville, Spain, from June 7-10, 2011. Non-HGI members interested in observing should contact the HGI secretariat.
