Hong Kong based Hutchison Global Communications (HGC) has entered an agreement with OTEGLOBE, the international wholesale arm of Greece's OTE Group, to provide a joint Asia-Europe connectivity solution.
Under the agreement HGC, the fixed line division of Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings, will provide a joint connectivity solution with OTEGLOBE using their respective backbone networks as well as the soon-to-be-launched Asia-Africa-Europe-1 (AAE-1) subsea cable.
The two companies' networks have been interconnected at HGC's PoPs in Singapore and OTEGLOBE's PoPs in Frankfurt, Germany. The companies said landing PoPs in other Asian cities including Hong Kong will be added in the future.
The AAE-1 subsea cable is expected to go live in the current quarter and will be one of the first cable systems to directly connect Hong Kong, Singapore, the Middle East, Africa and Europe.
Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong president of international and carrier business Andrew Kwok said the collaboration will allow HGC's customers to further extend their service coverage in Asia, including the fast-growing Greater Mekong subregion covering Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and China's Yunnan Province.
“The collaboration with OTEGLOBE on the new AAE1 subsea cable enables HGC customers to enjoy comprehensive one-stop IT and telecoms solutions in Asia and Europe along a new, low-latency and diverse path in the Eurasia corridor,” he said.
“OTEGLOBE and HGC are well-known and established carriers in our respective markets. By joining forces on a solution, we have further strengthened each other’s position in the international wholesale telecom business.”
