The GSM Association announced on Monday that 3GSM World Congress Asia, its flagship Asian mobile industry conference and exhibition, will move to Macau next year after being held in Singapore for the last three years.

GSM Association chair Craig Ehrlich said one of the major reasons for the move is because the industry association sees the increased need to move with the rapidly changing dynamics of the mobile industry in Asia, in particular, the importance of being closer to China, Korea and Japan.

"As a gateway location to northern Asia, Macau is rapidly becoming the entertainment center of the region, with purpose-built facilities that have the potential to help achieve our vision of developing and extending this, the most important mobile event in Asia," he said at a press conference on Day 1 of this year's event at the Suntec International Convention & Exhibition Centre

The GSMA has selected the new Venetian hotel and convention centre in Macau for the Congress, which will be held in November 2007.

According to the GSMA, this year's event has attracted more than 50,000 visitors, and over 120 top executives from mobile communication and mobile-related industries.
