The Philippines' Globe Telecom has extended its free Facebook offer until May, and has signed a deal to join rival Smart in offering the Internet.org free mobile internet service to its customers.
Globe has been running its free Facebook offer for the past two years, and believes that the offer has been a driving force behind its 120% increase in mobile data customers during this time.
The company will now continuing offering free Facebook with any promo purchase until May 15.
Globe will also collaborate with Facebook on Internet.org, the free basic mobile data service designed to improve internet access in underserved areas.
Facebook extended Internet.org to the Philippines earlier this month, in partnership with PLDT's Smart division, via the launch of a mobile app allowing Philippines mobile users to browse 24 websites without data charges.
“Our partnership with Facebook and the learnings from our successful ‘free FB’ campaigns have helped drive heightened awareness and interest about the Globe-Internet.org proposition,” Globe senior advisor for consumer business group Daniel Horan said.
He said the collaboration will allow Globe to develop new offers and content for its customers without them having to worry unexpected data charges.
