Gen-i, the ICT services division of Telecom New Zealand, has opened its new NZ$10.5 million ($8.1 million) Tier 3 data center in Christchurch.
The new facility is expected to complement the combined network of 14 (now 15) Gen-i data centers and five Revera Homeland data centers across New Zealand.
This new data center will boost Gen-i and Revera’s ability to meet growing demand for ICT solutions that harness the speed of new fiber and mobile networks, such as cloud, mobility, video and collaboration, the company said.
Tim Miles, Gen-i CEO said, “Our customers are adopting exciting new applications that harness our fixed and mobile networks to deliver greater flexibility, efficiency, productivity and engagement for their organizations.”
Miles said the new data center reflects Gen-i’s broader commitment to ongoing investment.
Gen-i’s new Christchurch data center will host a range of co-location and Cloud services to meet demand from public and private sector clients, in particular those who wish to retain their data within New Zealand to ameliorate security and regulatory compliance concerns.
