Manufacturing giant Foxconn has teamed up with China Telecom to launch an MVNO in mainland China as part of the nation's MVNO trials.

Foxconn subsidiary Xunjie will work with the operator to offer mobile services over China Telecom's CDMA2000 network, Want China Timesreported.

The operations will complement Foxconn's CDMA2000 operations in Taiwan, acquired by buying into Asia Pacific Telecom (APT) in May.

The MVNO will originally target Foxconn's employees in China and their families. Foxconn employs around 1 million people across China and Taiwan.

With the agreement, Foxconn is set to become the first Taiwanese company to secure an MVNO license in China.

The Chinese government last year announced a two-year MVNO trial, instructing the nation's state-owned mobile operators to partner with at least two MVNO brands each.

Companies including Alibaba and Suning have also signed on for the trial.
