The first leg of the Trans-Pacific Express [TPE] submarine cable network, under development by an industry consortium, is ready for service.
The cable system, which directly connects China, the United States, Korea and Taiwan, has a capacity of 5.12 Tbps and spans 18,000km.
It has been deployed by the Trans-Pacific Express Submarine Cable Consortium [TPE] - a syndicate featuring industry heavyweights AT&T, China NetCom, China Telecom, China Unicom, Chunghwa Telecom, Korea Telecom, NTT and Verizon Business.
The completed network will have six landing sites, with two in China and one each in Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and the US.
