Japanese operator Willcom launches a hosted email and personal information management service based on Microsoft's Exchange Server 2003. The new Access P-Berry service lets users access messages and other information from their Windows Mobile-based W-Zero3 ES smartphones.

KDDI unveils a new device that will allow mobile phone users to read data on integrated circuit tags. When the device is attached to a KDDI mobile phone and is held about 5cm from an IC tag, it will read the data, which can then be displayed on mobile phones and personal computers.

Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe, Fujitsu Microelectronics America, and Hopling Technologies have signed a memorandum of understanding to enable faster and smoother integration of the WiMAX baseband system-on-chip into a Linux-based wireless equipment environment.

Cellon will deploy AaaHaa Media's entertainment data service nationwide in China. The WAP-based mobile services will be launched on Motorola handsets, after completing successful testing in limited market areas.
