Vietnam's VinaPhone said it plans to launch 3G services on October 12. If it makes its self-imposed deadline, it will become Vietnam's first 3G operator.

Cambodian state-owned operator Telecom Cambodia is likely to become the first company floated on the country's forth coming stock exchange, according to a government minister.

Partner Communicationssaid it had dropped its bid to acquire fellow Israeli mobile operator MIRS. Incumbent Cellcom has reportedly also decided not to bid, leaving smaller telcos Pelephone and Smile in the running.

Alcatel-Lucent has replaced its Middle East and Africa president,Vincenzo Nesci.It has appointed IBM exec Amr El Leithy as head of the group from January 1, 2010.

IBM subsidiary Lotus will launch a web-based corporate email service, LotusLive iNotes, from next week.

Enterprise IT groups are likely to spend more on private cloud services than public offerings over the next three years, Gartner predicts.
