Telstra has installed a series of public phones in remote Aboriginal communities. Subsidised by the government under the Backing Indigenous Ability telecommunications program, Telstra has installed 20 new community phones, each in communities with populations under 50. This brings the total number of community phones across Australia to 238. The phones have been specially designed to withstand the sweltering climate of the Australian outback.

SK Telecom has reportedly abandoned plans to buy up or form a joint venture with US wireless giant Sprint. An unnamed official told Yonhap News that considering the current volatile economic climate, neither deal would be particularly palatable.

Microsoft has released an emulator for the upcoming Internet Explorer Mobile 6 (IEM6). Due to be released shortly, IEM6 promises improved fidelity, touch screen support and multiple zoom levels, and has been integrated with Adobe Flash Lite 3.1 and Jscript v5.7, which provides Enhanced Script and Ajax support.
